Privacy policy

Who we are
My Vessel (ABN 14 689 014 659) looks after boats on Sydney's waters. This policy explains what personal information we collect through our website and when you book or work with us, what we do with it, and your choices. We handle personal information under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles.
Questions, requests and complaints: info@myvessel.com.au or 1300 698 377.
Our website and booking system
Our website, online bookings and customer records run on Operiq, a business platform that stores and processes them for us. If you sign in to our website with the same email you use for the Clavys boat app, it is the same account; the app itself is covered by the Clavys privacy policy.
What we collect
- When you send an enquiry: your mobile number, and if you give them your name, email, your boat's make, model and length, where she's kept, the services you're interested in, how often, your message and how you heard about us.
- When you ask for a quote or book online: your name, email and mobile, your boat's details, where she's kept, the services you chose, your preferred date and any notes.
- When you pay online: you enter your card on Stripe's secure checkout page. Your card number never passes through our website and we don't store it. Stripe keeps the card on file with our Stripe account, and we use it only to charge the later visits of regular cleans you choose.
- When you create an account or sign in: your name and email, and your password (stored only as a one-way hash). If you sign in with Google, Google tells us your name and email. You can also sign in with a link we email to you.
- When we work for you: records of your boat, jobs, quotes, invoices and payments, and the emails and text messages we exchange with you.
We don't ask for sensitive information, and our website doesn't take photos or file uploads.
How we use it
- to reply to your enquiry and give you a price
- to book, plan and do the work on your boat, and to keep you updated
- to take payment, send invoices and keep our accounts
- to run your account and keep it secure
- to meet our legal obligations, for example keeping tax records
We don't sell your personal information, and we don't use it for advertising.
Who we share it with
Only the providers who help us run the business, and only what they need:
- Operiq, which runs our website, bookings and customer records, hosted with Replit and Google Cloud.
- Stripe, for card payments.
- Twilio, which delivers our text messages.
- Our business email provider, which delivers our emails.
- Xero, our accounting software, which receives our invoices and payments.
- Google, if you choose to sign in with Google.
When you look up your boat in our price builder, we may search online for its specifications. Only the make and model are sent, never your details.
We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect someone's safety.
Information sent overseas
Some of these providers store or process information outside Australia, including in the United States. This includes Stripe, Twilio, Xero, Google and Replit. We take reasonable steps to make sure they protect it in line with the Australian Privacy Principles.
Cookies and your browser
- A session cookie keeps you signed in and remembers your visit. It lasts up to 30 days.
- Your browser's storage keeps your cart if you aren't signed in, and helps the back button return you to the right place.
- Google serves our website's fonts and the Google sign-in button, so Google receives your device's IP address when a page loads.
- Our confirmation emails contain a small image that tells us when the email has been opened.
We don't use analytics or advertising cookies.
Keeping it safe
Information travels over encrypted connections (HTTPS), passwords are stored as hashes, and card details stay with Stripe. No system is perfectly secure. If a data breach is likely to cause you serious harm, we will tell you and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner, as the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme requires.
How long we keep it
We keep your information while you're a customer and for as long as we need it for the reasons above. Tax and business records, such as invoices and payments, generally have to be kept for 5 years under Australian law. If you made an enquiry and didn't go ahead, you can ask us to delete it.
Seeing and correcting your information
You can ask to see the personal information we hold about you, or ask us to correct it, by emailing info@myvessel.com.au or calling 1300 698 377. We'll respond within 30 days.
Complaints
Please contact us first at info@myvessel.com.au and we'll reply within 30 days. If you're not satisfied, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC): www.oaic.gov.au, phone 1300 363 992.
Changes
We'll update this policy when the way we handle information changes, and the date at the top will show when.
